Information for Y6 Parents

We believe that a smooth, positive and exciting transition from Year 6 to Year 7 is crucial to the start of the students' time at Pendle Vale College.

During the summer term we aim to visit every young person at their primary school to introduce ourselves and start to get to know them individually.  We also liaise closely with their primary school teachers and collect information which aids us in understanding a student’s strengths and areas for improvement. We then use this information when allocating form tutor and teaching groups.

In June we invite all Year 6 students to attend two Induction Days with us where they are introduced to their Form Tutors and their Tutor Group. During the two days students will be able to experience life at secondary school and take part in enjoyable activities in a number of subjects.

In addition in June we also invite Parents/Carer to an Induction Evening where they have the opportunity to speak with key members of staff and receive key information needed for your child starting life at Pendle Vale, including our Transition Booklet which we hope will prove helpful in answering the many questions that arise when a child starts a new school.

We can also arrange additional visits for vulnerable students which is arranged through the Student Support Centre.  If you would like to discuss this further please contact Mrs Sarah Barton, SENCO on 01282 682240 or by email s.barton@pendlevale.lancs.sch.uk.

Our formula for success is based on a close partnership between College and home, such success is made possible by you, as a parent/carer, being aware of the routine of the Collgeand the high expectations we have of our students.
